Decatur board OKs personal leave day

The Decatur school board approved an additional personal leave day for non-certified personnel Tuesday at its monthly meeting.

Non-certified personnel now get five personal leave days. Certified personnel already get five personal days. The employee, the school system and the state divide the cost of the personnel days, depending on the employee’s years of service. The school system and state pay for all of the employee’s days if he has 16 or more years.

Finance Director Melanie Maples said she was unsure how much the additional day would cost the school system because employees could choose to convert unused personal days into sick leave.
