MOULTON — A newlywed and father of a 7-month-old son died Wednesday morning after his vehicle collided with another five miles east of Moulton.

An ambulance took Ramiro Saenz Jr., 26, of Moulton to Lawrence Medical Center following the 7 a.m. accident at Lawrence County 217 and 460. He died shortly after from head injuries and blunt force trauma to the chest, said Coroner Micah Coffey.

Saenz was wearing his seat belt, according to state troopers.

The other driver, Jarvis Petty, 34, of Decatur, was not. An ambulance took Petty to Lawrence Medical Center. He was later transferred to Huntsville Hospital where he was in stable condition Wednesday.

Saenz is survived by his wife, Nicole Brantley Saenz, and his son, Gavin Saenz. He graduated from Lawrence County High School in 1999 and got married last year.

Parkway Funeral Home is handling the funeral arrangements.
