These area students have volunteered with Alacare Home Health and Hospice this summer.
Melissa Batrum, Brewer High School, has given weekly respite care for spouses of Alacare hospice patients.
Rosalind Boonarkat and Kaitlin Faulkner, both of Austin High School, and Jessi Smith of Hartselle High School have worked on craft projects and greeting cards for patients and also did office work.
Makaila Stevenson and Chasity Jackson, both of Austin, baked brownies for patients and their families, made crafts and will bake cookies for new hospice patients.
Jessica Owens and Della Smith, both of Hartselle, visited patients in Morgan and Cullman counties, where they have helped with scrapbooks, games and errands.
Anissa Brenley, Austin, created greeting cards for every Alacare hospice patient.
These area students have received scholarships from the University of North Alabama.
Bryant Sharpley of Decatur, Pride of Dixie band scholarship, position in the bandís clarinet line.
Sharpley is a graduate of Avon High School, Indiana. He is the son of Darlene Patterson.
Jon Haley of Trinity, Pride of Dixie Band Scholarship. He is a graduate of Decatur High School and is the son of Raymon and Tami Haley.
Timothy T. Paysinger Jr. of Decatur received academic achievement honors from The University of Alabama.
He was named to Sigma Alpha Lambda National Leadership and Honors Organization, Phi Eta Sigma Freshman Honors Society, Alpha Lambda Delta Freshman Honors Society and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
He was also named to the deanís list for the fall and spring semesters.
He is a sophomore majoring in telecommunications and film and business management. He is the son of Tim and Dawn Paysinger.
Nicholas Wray of Ardmore received the secondary gold medal in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration at the SkillsUSA National Leadership Conference held in Kansas City, Mo. Wray is a student at Limestone Career Technology Center.
Cox in state pageant
Ariel Lauren Cox of Hillsboro will compete in the Miss Teen of Alabama 2007 state pageant in Tuscaloosa on July 27-29.
She will be judged on her scholastic record, achievement and service to school and community, personal development of talents and skills, general awareness written test, personality projection in formal wear and interview.
She is a rising 10th-grader at East Lawrence High School and is the daughter of Robert and Michele Cox.
Matthews on deanís list
Emily Matthews of Hulaco has been named to the deanís list at the University of North Alabama for the 2007 spring term.
She is the daughter of Doug and Regina Matthews.
Graduation exam dates
Decatur City Schools will administer the summer Alabama High School Graduation Exam on Monday through Friday at the Austin High School Cafeteria.
Decatur City Schools students who were juniors or seniors in the 2006-07 school year or students who have completed their coursework but have not passed the graduation exam will be eligible to take the test.
Private school students who are in the same categories may take the test, paying a $20 fee. There is no charge for students who attended Decatur City Schools.
Students should report to the cafeteria by 8 a.m. on the day they will be testing.
This is the test schedule: Monday, reading; Tuesday, language; Wednesday, social studies; Thursday, science; Friday, mathematics. Call 466-2599.
Priceville Junior High School will hold its parent forum on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Robert, Penn and Meyers gymnasium.
High school and junior high students can pick up their schedules and buy lockers, parking passes and gym lockers on July 23-26.

Priceville High School will hold its PTO open house on Aug. 2 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the RPM gymnasium. Parents can meet teachers and coaches and get copies of their childrenís schedules.

DANVILLE — Danville High School will distribute schedules and sell lockers and parking permits July 25-26.
Seniors have priority at 8 a.m. on July 25, followed by juniors at 10 a.m.
The time for sophomores is July 26 at 8 a.m., followed by freshmen at 10 a.m.
Lockers are $8, and parking permits are $5.
Stidham receives degree
Summer Stidham of Danville received her bachelorís degree from Berea College, Berea, Ky., at the schoolís commencement ceremonies held May 27.
She is the daughter of Leslie Lawrence.
Denbo on deanís list
Jessica Denbo of Decatur has been named to the deanís list at the University of Texas, Austin, for the 2007 spring term. To be eligible, a student must maintain at least 3.5 grade point average.
She is the daughter of Joel and Sara Denbo.
