Ripley parsonage damaged in fire

RIPLEY — The parsonage at Riddle’s Chapel United Meth-odist Church at Ripley caught fire and suffered heavy damage Saturday.

Clements and Tanner volunteer fire departments responded to the blaze, which started in the kitchen, according to Clements Fire Chief Jessie Rager.

He said the fire occurred just after noon.

The house is at 11327 Ripley Road in southwest Limestone County.

Tennessee man dies after wreck

Anthony Gene Hobbs, 55, of Pulaski, Tenn., died Saturday after suffering injuries in a wreck on Alabama 251 in Athens on Friday, Athens police said.

Hobbs was driving a westbound pickup about 5:15 p.m. on Friday when the truck crossed the eastbound lane, flipped multiple times, and hit a tree in a residential yard near Sweetbrier Drive, police said.

Ardmore Memorial Funeral Home will handle arrangements.
