Fight fraud Thursday in Decatur

Thursday is fight fraud day in Decatur.

The event teaches community members how to protect their identity.

The Scam Jam will be at Central United Methodist Church in Decatur from 9 a.m. to noon and at Turner Surles Community Resource Center from 5 to 7 p.m.

Topics include identity theft, Medicare abuse and fraud, Internet fraud and mail and telephone scams.

Experts from government agencies, the Better Business Bureau and local law enforcement will answer questions and provide information.

Admission is free, and refreshments and door prizes will be available.

Shred It and Forget It will be at Family Security Credit Union in Decatur from 3 to 6 p.m.

Documents containing personal information will be destroyed. The limit for free shredding services is 30 pounds per person.
