ATHENS — Folks will be having fun in the mud and dirt in Limestone County at three upcoming events.
The annual CASA Mud Volleyball Tournament starts Saturday at 9 a.m. at Athens High School.
The event raises money for the Care Assurance System for the Aging and Homebound through team entry fees.
There is no admission charge.
After enjoying a mud-slinging good time, folks can then watch the lawn mower pull at Oak Grove-Thach Volunteer Fire Department.
There are divisions for children ages 14 and under, garden stock mowers, light to super stock mowers, V-twin mowers, and light and heavy outlaw mowers.
Bring a lawn chair to enjoy the free event.
Concessions will be available and those proceeds go to the department.
Competition starts at 2 p.m. The department is between Athens and Ardmore at 21042 Alabama 251, south of Thach Road.
The fun continues July 27 and 28 when the Tanner Quarterback Club hosts the 31st Alabama Championship Tractor and Truck Pull at Tanner High School’s dirt track.
Revamped machines with names like Bare Bones pull weight-laden sleds.
The competition begins at 7 each night. Advanced tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children.
