Anti-alcohol rally Sunday; anti-tax rally may follow

ATHENS — Opponents of alcohol sales are holding a “Rally Against Alcohol” on Sunday.

An anti-tax rally for Aug. 4 is tentative.

Athens voters will go to the polls on both issues Aug. 14. The first is to repeal alcohol sales in the city and the second is to increase sales tax 1 cent for schools.

Limestone County voters will vote on the tax.

Athens-Limestone Quality of Life is holding the anti-alcohol rally at Athens Bible School’s auditorium at 2 p.m.

There have been public announcements that the Aug. 4 anti-tax rally will be at 2 p.m. at Limestone County Courthouse. But Athens Police Chief Wayne Harper said no one has applied for a parade permit, which is required.
