bust-up at Kmart

Police say man caught stealing assaults employees

A man stealing from Kmart assaulted three employees Sunday, but they detained him, Decatur police said.

About 5:25 p.m., the man fled the store with merchandise, and the loss-prevention officers confronted him, police reported.

He punched one employee, tackled another, and struck another. He kept assaulting and threatening them until police arrived; then he struggled with police.

Police arrested Darrell Lynn Gray, 40, of 214-C Binford Drive, Huntsville. They found that he had outstanding warrants for two charges of third-degree theft of property and one charge of second-degree theft of property.

Police added three counts of third-degree robbery, resisting arrest, second-degree theft, and two counts of third-degree theft.

Gray was placed in the city jail. Bond was not immediately set.
