Commission allows subdivision to stay closed to traffic

Voting 5-1, the Decatur Planning Commission ruled Tuesday that developer Johnny Johnson will not be required to open his subdivision, Summer Shade South off Old Moulton Road, to through traffic.

A previously approved plan required Johnson to open his 23-lot development to through traffic in an effort to improve traffic flow in the area.

During Tuesday's meeting Johnson raised concerns about high-volume traffic in his subdivision.

"I do not wish to have this traffic coming through this development. It's so dangerous," he said.

Stan Keenum, a board member who is also interim general manager of Decatur Utilities, cast the dissenting vote. Sheila Davis abstained.
