Book signing at Brewer Saturday

FLORETTE — Jan Crawford Greenburg of Washington, D.C., a 1983 graduate of Brewer High School and a 1987 graduate of The University of Alabama, will sign copies of her book Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. on the concourse at Brewer.

Greenburg, a former reporter for the Chicago Tribune, has been legal correspondent for ABC News since October.

She has covered the Supreme Court for 12 years and wrote the New York Times best-seller released in January, “Supreme Conflict: The Inside Story of the Struggle for Control of the United States Supreme Court.”

Purple Heart program Aug. 4

HARTSELLE — The annual Finis J. Self Chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart service will be Aug. 4 at 10 a.m. at Sparkman Park.

The program will honor veterans from Morgan and Cullman counties who died in war or earned a Purple Heart.

Fay Kilgo will place a brick commemorating her son, Joshua Adam Bailey, in the Veteran’s Walk. Bailey, a local Marine, died at Camp LeJuene, N.C., in February.

Col. William Crosby of Redstone Arsenal will be the guest speaker.

Hartselle Junior High open house

HARTSELLE — Hartselle Junior High will hold an open house for sixth-grade and new students Aug. 5 at 2 p.m.

The school will give sixth-graders their schedules and sell lockers at this time.

Students in the seventh and eighth grades will report to the gymnasium Aug. 9 at 2 p.m. to receive their schedules and locker numbers.
