A wreck on Alabama 20 East in Limestone County early Thursday critically injured a Decatur man.

Tyler Blake, 25, was eastbound when his van overturned in the median near the fireworks stand at about 2:45 a.m., Decatur police said.

The van apparently rolled several times, ejecting Blake. Emergency personnel arrived to find him lying several feet from the van, police said.

An ambulance took Blake to Decatur General Hospital. He was later transferred to Huntsville Hospital by MedFlight helicopter.

He remained in critical condition in the neurological intensive care unit late Thursday, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Officer Mike Hazel said police suspect Blake fell asleep at the wheel.

"Apparently, he'd been up all day and worked that evening, got off, and had to go to another job," Hazel said.

Tyler Blake is the son of Steve and Claudia Blake of Decatur.

An Auburn University student, Blake had apparently been in Auburn on Wednesday making preparations to finish school.

Family and friends were gathered at the hospital Thursday and e-mails circulated asking for prayers.
