Ala. minister's wife pawned ring same day she disappeared

BOSSIER CITY, La. (AP) — An Alabama minister's wife last seen at a religious conference in Bossier City pawned her wedding ring the day she disappeared, police said Thursday.

Police released pictures of Mary Byrne Smith taken by security cameras at a store near the arena where about 14,000 women attended the Living Proof Live conference in March.

Smith, 30, of Summerdale, Ala., pawned the ring about 11:30 on March 24, about 30 minutes after telling a friend she was going to a concession stand, Police Chief Mike Halphen said.

Police said they have no reason to believe Smith, married and the mother of two, was the victim of foul play. No one has reported hearing from her.
