ATHENS — A man who came home Thursday to find two thieves making off with his aluminum cans held them at gunpoint until authorities arrived.
The thieves had made off with other people's property as well, said Limestone County Sheriff's Department Chief Investigator Stanley McNatt.
The Delaney Road homeowner saw an unfamiliar vehicle at his home when he arrived at 1:30 p.m., McNatt said, and then he saw two men behind the car.
He held a gun on them and forced them to remain until deputies arrived. There were more bags of cans in the car along with prescription medicine and two rifles.
McNatt said investigator Brian Ruble was working a theft on Poff Road that involved stolen medicine and rifles.
"They had stolen those items from the home on Poff Lane," McNatt said.
He identified the duo as Timothy Darnell Maynor, 24, of 17356 Lucas Ferry Road, Athens, and Shaun Christopher Holley, 20, of 1703 Edwards St., Athens.
Authorities charged them with third-degree theft and third-degree burglary. McNatt said more charges are pending.
"We found property at one of the men's girlfriend's house, and we think it is stolen," McNatt said.
