1 barber dead after barbershop fight

TUSCALOOSA (AP) — Two barbers got into a fight at a Tuscaloosa barbershop that left one of them shot to death.

Capt. Loyd Baker, commander of the Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit, declined to identify the men until their families were notified.

Baker said a 32-year-old man was killed Saturday and a 26-year-old man was injured.

The shooting happened at Brown’s Barbershop.

Owner Otis Brown said he was cutting hair when an argument started.

It grew into a fist-fight, then gunshots.

Brown, 75, said he doesn’t know who fired the first shot. Brown identified the man killed in the shooting as Maurice Spencer.

Brown said the two barbers had worked there for more than 10 years and often argued.

“I’m sorry it happened,” he said. “I had a good relationship with both of them.”
