The Morgan County Sheriff's Department has charged two 18-year-old Decatur men arrested after an alleged robbery and chase Saturday evening.

Toby Dale Helms Jr. of 316 Larkwood Drive S.W. and Joshua Ryan Bynum Terry of 284 Price Mountain Drive are charged with robbery of a business with a gun. As the driver, Helms is also charged with fleeing or attempting to elude an officer and driving with a suspended license.

Both men are in Morgan County Jail. Helms' bond is $100,600, and Terry's is $100,000.

Chief Deputy Mike Corley said one of the men allegedly took checks and cash from Skeeter's General Store on Upper River Road in Somerville at about 7 p.m.

He then jumped into a red Ford Bronco, dropping some of the checks and money in the parking lot.

A witness recorded the vehicle's tag number, and authorities pursued the Bronco through Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge.

Assisted by Priceville police, deputies tried to block the refuge exit, but the Bronco reached Old River Road and then turned north on Alabama 67.

Deputies then chased the vehicle into Decatur, reporting speeds of over 90 mph. The Bronco took a right on Sixth Avenue Southeast, and Decatur police took over the pursuit.

The Bronco turned left on 14th Street and then left again on Veterans Drive before police cornered it in the Corr Wireless parking lot.

One suspect tried unsuccessfully to escape on foot, while the other gave up without incident, police said.
