A month after John Phillips resigned as chairman of the Decatur Board of Zoning Adjustment, remaining members named his replacement Tuesday.
By a unanimous vote, the board chose Vice Chairman Kent Lawrence to replace Phillips for the remaining 16 months in the former chairman's term.
Lawrence has served on the board about two years. He owns and operates TVW Electrical Supplies in Decatur.
Also Tuesday, the board promoted current member Joseph Wynn to serve as vice chairman, replacing Lawrence.
A certified public accountant with 15 years experience, Wynn has served on the board for about nine months.
Since both promotions Tuesday were internal, the board is still short one member. Supernumerary member Frances Tate filled the position at the latest meeting.
According board member Jim Bolinger, the City Council could promote Tate to full-member status and appoint a new supernumerary to replace her.
Phillips resigned his board position June 26, reportedly
to pursue private ventures at
his business, Graves and Phillips Engineering and Maintenance.
"He's going to be missed. He's been a real level-headed and great contributing member to the board since he was first appointed," Mayor Don Kyle said at the time.
