CAPSHAW — Remnants of a life lost littered a yard on Capshaw Road after a wreck Tuesday that left a father dead.

Baby wipes, a child's car seat, magic markers, a ball cap and computer disks lay in the grass after the sport utility vehicle driven by Steven Wayne Amerson, 36, ran off Capshaw Road, went down an embankment and flipped.

The SUV landed on the
driver's side, pinning Amerson. Firefighters at the scene said Amerson was not wearing a seat belt.

Limestone County Assistant Coroner Andy Jackson said Amerson was eastbound when he lost control.

"I don't know why he lost control, but the tire marks show him crossing the westbound lane and going down the embankment," Jackson said.

Amerson possibly was heading home when he wrecked at about 3:05 p.m.

The wreck occurred just west of Baptist Camp Road. Jackson said Amerson lived at 28974 Red Bird Lane, which is off Baptist Camp Road.

Jackson said Amerson has children, but he did not know how many or their ages.

McConnell Funeral Home in Athens is handling arrangements.
