Athens council signs Alabama agreement for disaster aid
ATHENS — To ensure reimbursement after a disaster, the Athens City Council has signed an agreement to help other cities, and to receive help.
On Thursday the council approved the Alabama Mutual Aid System Agreement.
Mayor Dan Williams said that after the Enterprise tornado, the city learned that under Federal Emergency Management Agency regulations, there must be a written agreement before any disaster to receive reimbursement for the first eight hours of the disaster.
The agreement Athens approved says it will let the Athens-Limestone EMA initiate all requests for resources.
