Man in jail after allegedly fleeing

ATHENS — A man who allegedly fled from police and had a wreck is out of the hospital but in jail, authorities said.

Athens police Capt. Marty Bruce said James Vernon Allred, 39, of 1001 Frazier St., Lot 3, Athens, is charged with first-degree assault, attempting to elude police, reckless driving, running a red light, driving while license revoked and failure to pay for previous charges of no insurance and driving while license revoked.

Allred had been in Huntsville Hospital since July 31, when he fled police after officers tried
to serve him with failure to appear in court warrants, police said.

Bruce said Allred allegedly drove south on U.S. 31 and crashed into two vehicles, injuring a Tanner woman and himself.

Allred is in Limestone County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bond.

Man arrested in dirt bike theft

HATTON — Lawrence County sheriff’s investigators arrested a Town Creek man Friday for stealing a dirt bike from a Hatton home, according to Lt. Tim McWhorter.

Brandon Richardson, 24, of 1089 Lawrence County 585, Town Creek, allegedly drove off with a Kawasaki that was parked in the driveway of a residence on Lawrence County 147 in Hatton on July 28.

He then dropped it off at Brent Frost’s house in Moulton, said McWhorter. Frost, 27, of 18747 Alabama 157, allegedly sold the dirt bike for an undisclosed amount of cash.

Investigators charged Richardson with first-degree theft of property Aug. 3 after an informant alerted them about his involvement, said McWhorter.

The Lawrence County Jail released Richardson on Friday on $2,000 bond.

Frost is charged with second-degree receiving stolen property.

He remained Monday in the the Lawrence County Jail. His bond amount was not immediately available.

Lester man charged with fondling teen

ATHENS — A Lester man is in jail after a teenager told authorities he fondled her, a Limestone investigator said.

Sheriff’s Department Chief Investigator Stanley McNatt identified the man as James Larry Stanford Jr., 26, of 11471 Bates Road.

McNatt said Stanford allegedly fondled the 14-year-old female on one occasion.

Authorities charged him with first-degree sexual abuse. He was in jail Monday without bond set.
