Officers caught a burglar before his crime had been discovered, Decatur police said Tuesday.

Police arrested David Martin Kraft, 46, of 323 Sunnybrook Drive S.W. for allegedly being intoxicated in public at about 10:30 Saturday morning, said Detective John Crouch.

Kraft was carrying two red pillowcases stuffed with items that would later turn out to be stolen. The goods — including cash, a PlayStation, stereo, cable box and the pillowcases — had been taken from a home in the 2300 block of Flicker Road a short time before, police said.

At the time of Kraft's arrest in the area of Bobwhite Drive Southwest and Sandlin Road, the property hadn't been reported stolen. The owner reported the theft several hours later.

Kraft remained in Decatur City Jail on the misdemeanor charge until Tuesday, when Crouch charged him with third-degree burglary. He was then transferred to Morgan County Jail and released on bond.
