CSX plans to reopen East Second Street crossing in Falkville

FALKVILLE — A CSX railroad official didn't make it to Falkville's Town Council meeting Tuesday as planned, but Mayor Jimmie Walker delivered the good news.

The company is going to reopen the East Second Street crossing, he said.

Walker said that is the message he received during a conversation with Jim Cain, a CSX regional coordinator in Nashville.

The crossing closed Jan. 3, when a southbound train rammed a tanker truck caught on the tracks and tore out the signal.

Cain advocated permanent closer of the crossing during a public hearing in Falkville three months later, citing safety reasons. Three Falkville businessmen and parents spoke against it.
