Target expected to hire 150
By Evan Belanger evanb@decaturdaily.com · 340-2442 With Decatur's new Target store set to open in just over two months, the retail giant is expected to hire about 150 local employees this week. Beginning Thursday, the retailer will hold three job fairs at the Community Action Partnership and Encore Fitness on Central Parkway in Decatur. Previous job fairs held last month yielded about 30 managers for the new store. According to Huntsville store manager Hugh Davis, many more than needed applied for the positions. He said turnout is expected to be high at this week's job fairs as well. With the store set to open just in time for the Halloween and Christmas shopping seasons, Davis says new employees will work on fixture layouts Sept. 6-8 and begin stocking shelves by Sept. 10. Located at the southeast corner of U.S. 31 and Alabama 67, the 127,000-square-foot Target store will anchor The Crossings of Decatur, a more than 260,000-square-foot shopping center. Other retailers set to open at the site include Old Navy, Hibbett Sporting Goods, Ross Dress for Less, PetSmart, Lifeway Christian Store, Panera Bread Company, Nails First, rue21 and Rack Room Shoes. According to a spokesperson for GBT Realty Corp., which is developing the shopping center, most stores will open with Target on Oct. 14.
