CAPSHAW — Scam artists are targeting the Capshaw area and one couple are already victims.

Limestone County Sheriff's Department Chief Investigator Stanley McNatt said an elderly couple on Dupree Worthy Road let two men into their home Sunday at 2 p.m.

The men claimed they were opening a floor-covering business.

While one man talked to the couple about a floor sample, the other one slipped money out of the woman's purse and took a jewelry box with two rings and money.

The total worth of the jewelry and cash is $1,140.

"We think these men may have approached others in the area," McNatt said.

"Those with elderly loved ones need to warn them about the dangers of letting strangers into their home."

The couple did not have a detailed description about the men but said both are white with brown hair.

They left in a blue and silver pickup, possibly a Ford F-150. The truck is a late 1980s or early 1990s model.

Anyone with information can contact the department at 232-0111.
