Decatur High students in wreck

Two Decatur High School students were in a wreck Thursday afternoon in front of the Wetlands Edge Environmental Center on Finley Island Road.

Decatur Superintendent Sam Houston said the two girls escaped with minor abrasions and bruises, although he said the parents of one of the girls took her to a hospital for observation.

Houston said he could not release the girls' names, but state troopers identified the driver as Laura Cross, 16, of Decatur, and the passenger as Alex Templeton, age unavailable, of Decatur. Houston said the girls were leaving the center after attending the field studies class on the first day to return to DHS of school.

This picture shows the other vehicle involved, which caught fire. An ambulance transported the driver, Rodney Puryear, 36, of North Courtland, to a hospital.

Troopers also listed his passenger, Julian Puryear, 35, as injured. Their conditions were not available.
