Alcohol, tax vote in Athens, Limestone

ATHENS — Athens and Limestone County residents will go to the polls Tuesday.

Athens voters will vote on whether to repeal legal sales of alcoholic beverages and whether to raise sales tax to 9 percent for schools. Limestone voters will decide whether to raise sales tax to 7 percent for schools.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mayor Dan Williams said as long as you are in line at 7, you can vote. Poll officials will bring those standing in line inside the polling place and then lock the door.
