Auxiliary continues jewelry sale Friday
ATHENS — A jewelry sale for Athens-Limestone Auxiliary continues Friday.
The sale is from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Athens-Limestone Hospital Education Department. The products are from The Silver Shoppe, and free engraving is available on site.
Proceeds go to the auxiliary, which does special projects for the hospital.

Athens blood drive begins Tuesday
ATHENS — To ensure a stable blood supply, a two-day blood drive will be in Athens.
The LifeSouth Blood Mobile will be at Athens-Limestone Hospital’s Emergency Department parking lot Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Blood donations will continue Wednesday at the hospital’s Education Department from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Donors must be at least 17 years old, at least 103 pounds and have valid photo identification.

Traffic plan hearing Tuesday in Athens
ATHENS — Residents can comment Tuesday on a proposed traffic plan for the city.
The hearing will be at the Athens Planning Commission meeting at 5:45 p.m. at City
Hall.
The plan looks at parking congestion on the square, paving needs and safety of pedestrians.

Barn fire kills horse in Owens Thursday
OWENS — A barn fire killed a horse Thursday.
Someone called 911 at 10:20 a.m. to report that a barn on Elk River Mills Road was engulfed in flames.
That is in the Owens community west of Athens.
Owens and Pleasant Grove volunteer fire departments responded. The barn was a total loss.
The cause is under investigation.
