Miss Eva deadline is on Sept. 14

EVA — Entry deadline for the 2nd annual Miss Eva Frontier Days Pageant is Sept. 14.

The pageant is Sept. 22 at 10 a.m. in the Eva School gymnasium and is in conjunction with Eva Frontier Days.

The 19th annual Frontier Days is Sept. 22-29.

The beauty pageant has several divisions, starting with children up to 1 year old, through a division including women 19 years and up in the Ms. Eva Frontier Days category.

Miss Eva Frontier Days are for girls 15 to 18 years in grades 9-12.

Ozier Blood Drive is on Saturday

The youths of Central United Methodist Church will present the annual Mary Shaw Ozier Blood Drive on Saturday.

It will occur at from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., benefiting the American Red Cross.

Last year’s drive pulled in 95 usable units of blood. The goal this year is 100 usable units.

The church is at Sixth Avenue Southeast and Jackson Street. For more information, call the church at 353-6941.

Chemicollection Day is Saturday

Decatur and Morgan County residents may get rid of unused household chemicals Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Decatur Public Works complex at 1802 Central Parkway S.W.

Nova Chemical is sponsoring this month’s event and will assist with the collection.

Acceptable chemicals include paints, paint products, used motor oil, antifreeze, automotive products, auto and household batteries, and lawn and garden products such as weed and bug killers.

All chemicals should be in original containers or labeled as to contents.

There is a 5-gallon or 50-pound limit per household. Unacceptable items include farm and business chemicals, unknown chemicals, explosives, medical or radioactive wastes, flares, gas cylinders or tires.
