Clements wreck kills Fla. woman

CLEMENTS — A two-vehicle wreck killed a woman and injured three others Tuesday night.

Limestone County Coroner Mike West said the woman, who had not yet been identified, was a passenger in the vehicle driven by her husband. The couple was apparently from Florida, West said.

Their pickup collided with a minivan at Shaw and Snake roads in western Limestone County at about 6 p.m. The impact was on the passenger side of the vehicle, West said.

The husband, whose name also had not been released, suffered injuries in the 6 p.m. wreck and was still being treated at Athens-Limestone Hospital’s emergency room at press time.

Two others were taken to Athens-Limestone by ambulance. Their names and conditions were not available.

Man charged with fruit stand robbery

Investigators charged a man with robbing the owner of a produce stand, Morgan County Sheriff Greg Bartlett said Tuesday.

The alleged robbery took place at about 3:30 p.m. Friday at Alabama 36 and Talucah Road, where Charles Preston Walling sells produce.

Bartlett said James Michael Williams, 43, of 1253 Hobbs Island Road, Huntsville, took a box of tomatoes, a watermelon and a half box of peaches and snatched $10 cash from Walling’s shirt pocket.

Williams claimed that Walling owed him $40 and the items he took were an agreed-upon settlement, but Walling said he didn’t owe Williams anything, Bartlett said.

Williams remained in Morgan County Jail on Tuesday in lieu of $1,500 bond.
