TVA agrees to buy power from Calpine

Calpine Corp. announced Thursday it signed a five-year agreement, effective Sept. 1, with the Tennessee Valley Authority to sell the full output of the company’s Decatur Energy Center.

Under terms of the agreement, TVA supplies natural gas to fuel the Decatur plant and Calpine delivers up to 770 megawatts of electricity to TVA.

As part of the agreement, Calpine is providing TVA with full dispatch rights to provide power to its system as needed.

Calpine’s Decatur Energy Center has operated since 2002.

Meth items found in hotel room

A chemical odor led police to a hotel room containing methamphetamine lab components, Decatur police said Thursday.

The discovery landed Kenneth Edwin Patterson, 43, of 934 Fourth Ave. N.W., Arab, in jail on charges of first-degree manufacturing meth and possession of drug paraphernalia.

After patrol officers went to the Ramada Inn at 1317 Point Mallard Parkway and noticed meth-making items inside room 233, narcotics agents returned with a search warrant, according to Investigator Archie Letson.

Agents found meth, paraphernalia and chemicals inside the room, Letson said.

Patterson will be transferred to the Morgan County Jail and held in lieu of $100,500 bond.
