Plants gone to pot, thanks to vandals

Donna Cole, owner of Smarty Plants, shows how vandals overturned plants, broke glassware and squirted chemicals all over the greenhouses at her nursery at 2602 Alabama 24.

"Somebody just came in here and had fun throwing stuff," Cole said. "It's extremely frustrating not to know who did it or why they did it and not to have any way to find out. Not to mention the cleanup involved."

Cole said she will have to throw out opened fertilizer containers and flags that were covered in chemicals. Time will tell how much damage some of the plants suffered from being coated with chemicals, she said.

Cole said the damage happened between the nursery's closing 4:30 p.m. Thursday and its opening at 8 a.m. Friday. She asks that anyone who might know anything about the vandalism call Decatur police at 341-4660.
