Lawrence County tables decision on next administrator's contract

MOULTON — The Lawrence County Commission is ironing out details of the future county administrator's contract.

Current Lawrence County Administrator Linda Harville plans to retire Oct. 1 after more than 30 years as a county employee and five as county administrator. She was honored with a resolution and presented a plaque at a meeting Monday.

The commission hired Harville's assistant administrator, Karen Harrison, to fill the vacant position last month. Harrison started her career with the county as an accountant 27 years ago and earned her certification in county administration about 10 years ago, she said.

Harville's annual salary is $62,000. District 1 Commissioner Mose Jones Jr. proposed a $60,000 annual salary for Harrison. Harrison said her salary was $58,000 last year.

The commission tabled a decision on the county administrator's contract until later to allow more time to finalize details including reimbursement and whether Harrison would require the commission's permission for business trips.
