Lawrence wants new ID Board structure

MOULTON — Lawrence County officials are asking
the state to amend a legislative act to let each county commissioner appoint five people from his or her district to serve on
the Industrial Development Board.

The commission unanimously approved District 1 Commissioner Mose Jones Jr.'s recommendation Monday to request that House Bill 279 be amended to facilitate industrial growth in Lawrence County.

"Industry is not moving forward, and I'm very disappointed," Jones said. "It's about time for the leaders of this county to take the initiative."

House Bill 279 states that the Industrial Development Board shall be composed of one member appointed by each member of the county legislative delegation and three members appointed by the County Commission.

Legislation creating the five-member Industrial Development Board structure was passed and signed into law in November 1993.
