Limestone warned about fake paychecks

ATHENS — The Limestone County Sheriff’s Department wants convenience store employees to know that someone is cashing counterfeit paychecks.

Chief Investigator Stanley McNatt said an unknown person cashed a fake Direct TV paycheck at Nana’s Corner on Alabama 99 in Owens on Aug. 30. A black male cashed another one at the Amoco gas station in Elkmont on Sept. 1. Each check was for $212.32. The bank listed on the checks is First American Bank from Lawrenceburg, Tenn., and Waynesboro, Tenn.

No stores in Athens have reported these counterfeit checks.
