Store owner threatened with weapons

Apparently angry at being thrown out of a convenience store, a man threatened the owner with a variety of weapons, Decatur police said.

Food Plus owner Gelan Musa told police he recognized the black male who entered his store at 127 Austinville Road S.W. at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday as a man who had previously shoplifted.

Lt. Frank DeButy, a police spokesman, said Musa told officers that when he asked the man to leave, the man stepped outside and pulled out a box cutter and began swinging it around.

He then picked up the air hose used for inflating tires and began swinging it around, DeButy said.

As Musa walked outside with the phone in hand, speaking with dispatchers, the man allegedly hurled a rock at him, then ran off.

No one was injured.
