“Duck season” will come early to Decatur again this year, bringing a chance to win $1 million.

For the second straight year, Redstone Federal Credit Union has partnered with Ducky Derby to add an incentive for the event benefiting Volunteer Center of Morgan County.

The annual contest, which will occur Saturday during Riverfest, also offers more than $9,300 in prizes. To take a quack at the prizes, participants must adopt a rubber duck at a participating organization or during the event at Ingalls Harbor this Friday and Saturday. Ducks are $5 apiece or six for $25.

At 3:30 p.m., all the ducks will race down a one-eighth-mile river course. The first 20 to cross receive year-round prizes listed below. If the first duck that crosses has a number that matches a pre-selected random number, the owner of the duck will win $1 million paid during a 40-year period.

To adopt a duck during Riverfest, pick up adoption forms before 2 p.m. Saturday at The Ducky Derby tent. Ducks also are available during the week at the Volunteer Center at 708 Sixth Ave. S.E., Jimmy Smith Jewelers, Colonial Mall or Courtyard by Marriott.
