Police: House fire appears suspicious

A fire that damaged a home Sunday appears suspicious, Decatur police said. Decatur Fire Marshal Darwin Clark said the blaze at 1508 Thomas Drive S.W. could be the work of an arsonist, according to a police report.

Police spokesman Lt. Frank DeButy said the residence had no power and was unoccupied, as the residents had moved out the previous day. Firefighters arrived shortly after 1 a.m. to find flames shooting 20 to 30 feet from the roof. Structural damage was contained to the attic.
