Dog handling seminar in Falkville

FALKVILLE — The Falkville Police Department will sponsor a basic service dog-handling seminar for K-9 teams Thursday at the municipal building from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Falkville K-9 Officer Johnny Howell said the seminar will cover obedience, narcotics and bomb detection and dual-purpose handling.

The class is free and will count toward 12 continuing-education units.

On Friday, there will be an optional certification test, which will cost $140 and will include a one-year membership in the World Detector Dog Organization.

Alzheimer’s group to meet Monday

ATHENS — The Athens Alzheimer’s Support Group will meet Monday at 7 p.m. at the Athens Senior Center on Pryor Street. They will have a round table discussion. The meeting is for anyone who has a loved one dealing with Alzheimer’s.
