MEETING NOTES - Decatur Board of Education

Decatur Board of Education

On Tuesday, the Decatur City Board of Education:

  • Heard a report from Finance Director Melanie Maples that the school system had $5.2 million in revenues and $6.1 million in expenses in August, leaving $14.8 million in reserves. The Child Nutrition Program had $402,349 in revenues and $29,793 in expenses, leaving $1.7 million in reserves.

  • Approved a $3,803 change order for additional labor,
    materials and equipment costs on the partial Austin High School re-roofing and Eastwood Elementary School re-roofing project. The final project cost is $507,576.

  • Approved a resolution endorsing the changes to No Child Left Behind in the U.S. House of Representatives' House Bill 648.

  • Approved a resolution recognizing Oct. 18 at "Lights on Afterschool!" day. Certified personnel

  • Accepted the retirement of Alice M. Green, guidance counselor, Brookhaven Middle School.

  • Accepted the resignation of Robin L. Coffey, physical education, Cedar Ridge Middle School.

  • Hired Vicki Earnest, French teacher, Austin High; Kelly Waters Elmore, social studies, Austin; Kevia D. Clarke, physical education, Cedar Ridge; Tamaria T. Smith, English, Decatur High; Kimberley Brooks Stone, eighth-grade science, Horizon High; Calvin J. Ayers, physical education, Somerville Road Elementary; and Kimberly R. Starkey, adaptive physical education, Special Services Center,

  • Approved elementary student council supplement for Pam Brannon, Leon Sheffield Elementary School.

  • Delete elementary student council supplement for Susan England, Leon Sheffield.

  • Approved International Baccalaureate coordinator supplement for Nancy Brewer, Leon Sheffield.

  • Transferred Joni Bair from Brookhaven to Special Services Center. Non-certified

  • Accepted the retirement of Patricia J. Cockrell, CNP worker, Oak Park Middle School.

  • Accepted the resignation of Jill F. Hjelm, CNP worker, Brookhaven.

  • Hired Janet L. Kalonick, in-school suspension teacher aide, Austin; Janice Onease Torain, custodian, Somerville Road; Walter R. Blackwell, school nurse, Special Services Center; Angela Lynn Terry Cross, school nurse, Special Services Center; Louis B. McGee, school nurse, Special Services Center; Rebecca Anne Prater, school nurse, Special Services Center; Denise E. Zubeck, school nurse, Special Services Center; Rhonda Marie Burns, transportation aide, Transportation Department; Joyce E. Chapman, transportation aide, Transportation; Marshall Barry Martin, bus driver, Transportation; Sheree Deffenbaugh Sutton, bus driver, Transportation; and Sandra O. Adams, teacher aide, physical education, Woodmeade Elementary.

  • Add assistant manager supplement for Holly Beth Keenum, CNP worker, Brookhaven.

  • Transferred Mary Ann McElory, CNP worker, from Cedar Ridge to Julian Harris Elementary School.
