Democrats move up delegate qualifying

MONTGOMERY (AP) — The Alabama Democratic Party has moved up the opening day for presidential candidates or delegates to qualify for a place on the Feb. 5 presidential preference primary ballot.

Democratic Party officials said Wednesday qualifying will begin Saturday, Oct. 13, following the State Democratic Executive Committee meeting at 10:30 a.m. at the Winfrey Hotel in Hoover. After that, candidates must qualify at the Democratic Party headquarters in Montgomery.

Qualifying will end on Dec. 7.

Qualifying had been scheduled to begin Nov. 7.

Party officials said the change was approved by the Democratic National Committee's Rules and Bylaws Committee.
