Police standoff shooting victim identified

PRATTVILLE (AP) — A 24-year-old man who apparently shot himself in the head during a standoff with Prattville police has been identified as William Anthony Moses.

He was in critical condition at Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery.

The shooting occurred Friday night as Moses was confronted by police outside a retail store. A store employee had called police.

Moses was with a former girlfriend who later told police Moses had tied her up in her own home on Autauga County Road 57 earlier Friday.

Autauga County Sheriff Herbie Johnson said Moses had threatened to kill the woman, whose name was not released, and her two children, a 10-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy.
