Drowning victim’s body recovered

BIRMINGHAM (AP) — A Bessemer man who went to fish on a pier apparently drowned Monday morning in the Warrior River, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office said.

The body of Robin Gurley, 48, was found floating near the Bill Gross Camp around 10 a.m., Sgt. Randy Christian, a sheriff’s office spokesman, said Monday.

Gurley lived within two blocks of where his body was recovered by a sheriff’s department dive team. Christian said Gurley was last seen aliveMonday morning .

The drowning appears to be accidental. Christian said Gurley was fishing from a pier before the drowning. Relatives told investigators the victim had some medical problems that could have contributed to the drowning.
