The Finalizer takes racking horse event

There was a repeat winner at the 2007 Racking Horse World Grand Championship, just not the one most expected. The Finalizer took the top title Saturday night, equaling the achievement he made in 1998.

The stallion, trained by Lamar Denny for John Denny of Blountsville, beat six other horses for the World Grand Championship, including last year’s champ, Score At Halftime. Score bucked the trend by defending his title the year after winning and finished fourth.

Second place went to Unreal, the 2002 champ, now trained by Jamie Lawrence for S.A. Barber of Arab.

Coming in third was Not Much Doubt, trained by Michael Wright for Deanna Tyra of McKee, Ky. Not Much Doubt won the Spring Celebration in April.

The naming of the World Grand Champion ended the eight-day event. The show drew 1,263 entries, down about 35 from last year.
