Fourteen new officers initi-ated by Decatur police will take to patroling to the streets soon.

Police Chief Ken Collier administered the oath of office to the new hires during a ceremony at Turner-Surles Community Center on Thursday morning.

After reciting the oath, each new officer received his or her badge.

The officers are: Brent Joseph Best, Martquinn Jonta Birgans, Mitchell Harris Breland, Selby DeLeon Fernandez, Joshua Wayne Fisher, Casey Ford Foxworthy, Tarvius Dorsett Jones, Michael Jason Kitchens, Jonathan Ryan Macklin, Julie Christina Neill, Stanley Qahhaar, Joseph Schutt, Jason Wigginton, and Joshua Wooten.

The officers will complete the orientation academy and then enter the field training program, according to police spokesman Lt. Frank DeButy.

The officers will then attend a state police academy, probably early next year.

Family members of the officers, members of the City Council, Mayor Don Kyle and others were present at the ceremony, according DeButy.
