Red Cross donors eligible for vacation

Blood donors for the American Red Cross during October will become eligible to win the Fall into Donating grand prize.

The package includes two nights of accommodations for two at The Ridges Resort and Club, a mountaintop lakeside retreat in Hiawassee, Ga., as well as a round of golf for two at The Ridges Golf Club.

The Morgan/Lawrence County Chapter of the Red Cross accepts blood donors Mondays from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Thursdays from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m., at its Decatur office on Holly Street Northeast

Upcoming blood drives include Moulton Parks and Recreation Center, Thursday at 1p.m.; Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, Saturday at 9 a.m.; St. Florian Oktoberfest, Saturday at 10 a.m. and Sunday at 11:30 a.m.; Automatic Screw Machine Products, Tuesday at 11:30 a.m.; and Falkville Health Care Center, Oct. 10 at 10:30 a.m. For more information, call 353-4891.

Volunteer Center taking nominations

The Volunteer Center of Morgan County has extended the deadline to make nominations for the 24th annual Heart of the Community Volunteer of the Year awards. The new deadline is 4 p.m. on Monday.

Awards will be presented in six categories: adult individual, youth individual, adult group, youth group, business partners and lifetime achievement.

A panel of local judges will select the recipients. Winners will receive a $500 donation designated to the organization of their choice. The ceremony will be Oct. 30. For more information, call 355-8628.
