Disaster relief training available

Community Emergency Response Training is available again for Morgan County residents.

The training is offered by the Volunteer Center of Morgan County and Morgan County Emergency Management Agency,

CERT is a realistic approach to emergencies and disasters where citizens may initially be left on their own in attempting to make a difference.

The training includes sessions on how to:

  • Manage limited utilities and safely extinguish small fires.

  • Treat the three most dangerous medical killers by opening blocked airways, controlling bleeding and treating for shock.

  • Provide basic medical aid.

  • Search for and rescue victims safely.

  • Organize themselves and spontaneous volunteers to be effective and collect disaster intelligence to support the rescue efforts of first responders.

Training sessions begin Oct. 22 and continue through Dec. 10.

Each session will convene at the Turner-Surles Community Center at 702 Sycamore St. N.W. from 6 to 9 p.m.
