Morgan cleanup week set for Oct. 15-20

Morgan County district shops are preparing to receive your junk.

Fall cleanup week is Oct. 15-20.

Twice a year county commissioners and the regional landfill give county residents an outlet to dispose of unwanted household items.

"It'll be business as usual," said District 3 Commissioner Kevin Murphy. "It's a very unique service, good for the public. If we didn't have cleanup, I feel we would be going picking up stuff off the side of the road constantly. It gives the county a real good image."

From Monday through Thursday you may take castaways to the district shop in the area where you live or to the landfill on Alabama 20. There is no charge.

Participants must show proof of residency.

District 2, 3 and 4 shops will receive items from Monday through Thursday and Saturday. District 1 will receive items Saturday only because of its close proximity to the landfill, according to Garbage Director Ricky Brooks.

The time for dumping at District 1 is from 7 a.m. until noon Saturday. The shop is on Central Parkway Southwest.

The other three shops will receive items Monday through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The times for the three shops vary Saturday.

District 2 is on Shull Road in Hartselle and will open from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday; District 3, from 8 a.m. to noon; and District 4, from 7 a.m. to noon.

Unacceptable items are shingles, tires, household garbage, lumber and hazardous chemicals.

Adopt-a-milers will also be out cleaning litter from county roadways.
