15-year-old charged in mother's death

BIRMINGHAM (AP) — A 15-year-old has been charged with murder in his mother's shooting death and was being held in a juvenile detention facility Thursday.

Bibb County Assistant District Attorney Tim Evans said the teen was taken into custody after the Tuesday night shooting.

The teen's name was not being released because of his age, Evans said.

The Birmingham News reported on its Web site that Becky Young, 52, was found dead at her Woodstock home at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday when Woodstock police and Bibb County Sheriff's deputies arrived.

Evans said officers with the Alabama Bureau of Investigation are working on the case.

and will decide whether to pursue an adult trial "probably within the next 30 days."

"We will either file a petition to try him as an adult and a judge will make that determination," he said Thursday. "If we don't proceed with that avenue, then the case will be heard in juvenile court."

Evans said authorities were informed of the incident through a 911 call, but he did not know who made the call.
