Storytelling event needs volunteers

ATHENS — Volunteers are needed for the Storytelling Festival in downtown Athens.

Anyone ages 15 and up can volunteer to help. The festival is Oct. 26-27, but schoolchildren will attend earlier that week. Community groups are asked to volunteer as a service project.

Haunted house fundraiser Oct. 25

MOULTON — The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 325 is hosting a haunted house fundraiser, starting Oct. 25, at the Old Farmers Gin.

The haunted house is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 25 through Oct. 31, except on Sunday, said sheriff’s Lt. Tim McWhorter, lodge president.

The Old Farmers Gin is on West Street, off Court Street near City Hall, he said. The haunted house will be open until the line to get in thins, McWhorter said. He said he hopes to start hosting the event annually.

McWhorter said the Old Farmers Gin, now owned by the city, was built in the 1930s and was operational until the 1980s. Admission prices haven’t been set, he said.
