Mount Hope firefighters battle grass fire

MOUNT HOPE — Mount Hope firefighters responded to a grass fire twice Saturday on Alabama 24 West near the Franklin County line, a Lawrence County 911 dispatcher said.

He said the first call came at 11 a.m., and firefighters were on the scene about an hour. The fire rekindled.

Firefighters returned at 2:07 p.m. and cleared up three hours later.

“There were three trucks and six firefighters on the scene,” he said. “Also, the state forestry service sent a bulldozer to plow a fire break.”
