4 Eufaula players, assistant coach injured

EUFAULA (AP) — Four Eufaula High School football players and an assistant coach were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after a crash involving a bus carrying the team and a pickup.

Barbour County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Eddie Ingram said the accident happened around 11:30 p.m. Friday on State Road 51 south of Clayton.

Ingram said the pickup had broken down in the middle of the road just over the crest of a hill when it was struck by the bus.

The truck driver, Kenneth Bernard Eutsey, of Clio, and a female passenger holding a 3-week-old baby managed to get clear of the truck before it was hit.

“It’s a miracle nobody was killed,” Ingram said.
